The Week Ahead - Term 4, Week 6
Monday 10 November - Friday 14 November 2025
From the Head of College
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Welcome to the final three weeks of Term 4, as we close in on finishing another successful year at .
This week, we were delighted to welcome our Year 9 students back from their Googa Outdoor Education experience. I had the privilege of visiting them a fortnight ago and once again was encouraged by the Googa staff’s praise for their outstanding manners, teamwork and willingness to grow. These qualities do not develop by accident. Thank you, parents, for the steady foundation and character you are nurturing in your children. Congratulations to our Year 9 cohort for embracing these life-shaping experiences. We look forward to celebrating with these students at their “Coming Home Ceremony” next Tuesday.
Our Year 12 students are now entering the final week of external exams. We look forward to marking this special milestone with a Final Chapel and Morning Tea Farewell on Monday, 17 November, where we will celebrate their journey and pray a blessing over their future.
Celebrations also continue for our Year 6 students, who will be acknowledged at their Celebration Dinners over the coming fortnight as they prepare to step confidently into Senior College next year.
Next week, we will also recognise our sporting achievements at the Sport Recognition Evening. This promises to be a wonderful celebration of dedication, teamwork, coaching support and strong parent encouragement. Thank you to all who contribute to making sport such a meaningful part of our college life.
I would also like to commend our Year 11 leaders, who have stepped into their roles with maturity and enthusiasm. Their confident leadership in assembly and chapel last week has been a sign of a bright year ahead. Leadership nominations for our 2026 Year 5 leaders are also underway, with speeches happening on Monday.
Our Junior College hosted and celebrated our annual Christmas for the Bush Chapel service today – this remains one of my favourite events at . Thank you to the Year 1 staff and students for planning and coordinating this event on behalf of the college. This event was a great reminder of generosity as we head toward Advent.
I would also like to acknowledge and thank those parents amongst you who stepped up as the organisers, helpers, volunteers and overseers of the recently held Oktoberfest.
As we approach the finishing line of the year, I encourage all to finish well. These final weeks are an opportunity to express gratitude, maintain focus, encourage one another and recognise the good that God has done among us this year.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming celebrations and gatherings.
Blessings and safe passage to you over these closing weeks.
Yours in Christ

Leadership
We have now our new Year 12 2026 captains in place and they are off to a flying start. I am very impressed by the calibre of leaders that have stepped forward and excited about what they may bring to our college as student leaders for the next year. In many ways they have already started, taking responsibility for things like leading assembly, some of them leading a thought-provoking chapel, complete with band, seeking to find ways to engage all students and promote an inclusive and welcoming culture at .
There are a variety of support systems available to our student leaders: some attended the LYQ Engage camp during the term break, they are supported by staff including Mr Pukallus, Mr Manteufel and Ms Bowes, and a couple of weeks ago I was able to take two Faith and Service Captains and one of the College Captains to a leadership day offered by Lutheran Youth Queensland. It was a very helpful day, and I believe it will guide some of the practical ways in which our captains will lead the school. Zoe Pietsch provided this reflection:
"Last Friday, Kaylee, Meg and I attended Lutheran Youth Queensland’s Lift Conference with Pastor Thomas at Grace Lutheran College in Redcliffe. It was a big day of networking, brainstorming and finding solutions to some big ideas. The day began with a scenario: we had 3 weeks to discover how we, as Martians, would welcome 900,000 Earthlings to Mars. This activity made us really consider different needs, learn how to prioritise, and generate solutions to difficult questions. We also had the opportunity to network with various professionals at different stations, to focus on areas such as communication, culture and vision.
After lunch, which was a great time to connect with other leaders from Lutheran schools around Southeast Queensland, we turned our focus to our school and the challenges we want to address.
As a team, we decided that we want to continue to support the faith journey of every student at and encourage stronger connections and meaningful relationships between students across all year levels. We felt this was especially important as we prepare to welcome the junior college onto the same campus in the coming years.
Overall, it was a great day, and as a student leadership team, we are very excited for 2026."
We pray for the Lord’s blessings on our leaders and our community as we come to the very busy end of this school year and we are looking forward to what the next year will bring as we continue to work to create one future out of the three histories of our community.
Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. (Psalm 100:2)
God bless.

From the Director of Marketing and Community Engagement
It has been another full few weeks across and I continue to be reminded of how fortunate we are to belong to such a connected community.
Recently, I have once again had the privilege of representing as a judge for a category in the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. It was a wonderful opportunity to engage with local businesses that contribute so much to our region. I was also pleased to attend the Awards evening, where I was able to reconnect with leaders, partners and community members who continue to support and champion . These events highlight the importance of the relationships beyond the College gates and the value of being active contributors to our broader community.
Closer to home, I spent some time at the Senior College Art Show and was genuinely struck by the creativity, skill and individuality on display. It reminds us that learning is not just academic. It is expressive, personal and meaningful. Our 2026 Arts Tour to Sydney was also announced and it is looking like an awesome experience if your children are in years 7 to 11 this year and study an Arts subject or are involved in extra-curricular arts activities.
Scholarship applications for 2027 are now open and we have already begun receiving interest and enquiries. If your family, or someone you know, is considering applying, I encourage you to visit our website for information about the application process and eligibility. Sharing this opportunity through your own networks is a simple way to support the growth and diversity of our College community.
I also had the pleasure of visiting our Year 9 students during their time at Googa. There were plenty of shared challenges and personal growth on display. I am sure families are very pleased to have them home again, back into familiar routines, full of stories and new confidence.
As we begin to move toward the end of the term, I hope there are many moments of connection and celebration ahead. Thank you for the many ways you support the community.
Warm regards,
Ms Belinda Sanders
Director of Marketing & Community Engagement

Counting Down to the End of a Fantastic Year!
It is hard to believe there are only three weeks left in our school year! What an incredible journey 2025 has been for our students, staff and families. As we approach the end of term, our calendar is filled with wonderful opportunities to celebrate learning, growth and community spirit.
A heartfelt thank you to our Year 1 students and their teachers, and to everyone who generously donated items towards our Christmas for the Bush project. Once again, it was a touching service that highlighted the compassion and generosity of our school community. Through Care Outreach, ’s generous donations will be distributed to families in rural and remote communities who are in need this Christmas. Thank you for supporting this worthy cause again this year.
As the end of the year approaches, we will soon be choosing and announcing our 2026 Student Leadership positions. This is always an exciting time as we see new leaders step forward, ready to make a positive difference in our school community. We begin our leadership process on Monday with our Campus Captain nominees presenting their speeches at their respective Assemblies. We wish all our Year 5 nominees well for the coming weeks.
Our much-anticipated Interhouse Swimming Carnival will be held on Thursday 20 November. Throughout this term, students have been participating in swimming lessons, building their skills, confidence, and endurance in the pool. The carnival provides an excellent opportunity for them to showcase what they’ve learned and to celebrate their progress in a fun, supportive, and competitive environment. It’s always a highlight of Term 4 and we look forward to a great day filled with team spirit, enthusiastic cheering, and a healthy dose of friendly rivalry between houses.
We are also looking forward to our Semester’s Recognition of Achievements Awards, a special occasion to recognise the hard work, effort and achievements of our students across all areas of college life. These Assemblies will be held on Thursday 27 November and we welcome all parents to attend.
Rehearsals for HSC’s “The Magical Christmas Jigsaw” musical and WSC’s “Groovin the Nativity” musical are already underway. We look forward to sharing these productions with you in Week 8. Please find a list of costumes in your campus specific section of TWA.
And finally, we will also take time to celebrate our Year 6 students as they prepare to finish their junior college journey. We are so proud of the young leaders they have become and look forward to sending them off with warm wishes for their next adventure in Year 7.
The final few weeks of term promise to be full of joy, pride and celebration … a fitting way to close another wonderful year of learning and growing together.
Blessings for the week ahead.

JC Sports News
Recently, our Junior College students competed in the mixed division of the Southwest Qld Primary All Schools Touch Carnival at the Kearney Springs Sports Complex. While many of our students were relatively new to the sport of touch, they put their best foot forward over the duration of the carnival in hot and dry conditions and against the best touch schools in the Southwest Qld region. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with the improvement individually and as a team evident over the day. We secured a semi-final berth, but unfortunately, we went down to the eventual champions in a great game of touch, with the final score not showing how close the game really was.
Congratulations to Thomas Cameron, Hudson Corkill, Beau Ramia, Harry Stokes, Paul Mathews, Wally Burrows, Ari Giles, Ajah Ayii, Matilda Tannock, Lela Wackerling, Evie Dealtry, Ava Manteufel and Sarah Loughlin.
These opportunities are not possible without assistance. I would like to specifically mention parents who supported our students at the carnival from the sidelines.
This concludes our touch program for 2025, which saw participate in Term 1 Inter-school Sport, Term 2 Swans Cup on Monday nights and this carnival.
The Carnival results were:
Game 1 Won 4 - 0
Game 2 v Won 3 - 0
Game 3 v Lost 4 - 1
Semi Final Lost 5 – 2

We are now at the time of year where we are busy planning for the next school year, while also making sure we finish 2025 on a high.
Ou Year 12 students are currently continuing with their external exams, with the final assessment happening on Friday of Week 6. I would like to acknowledge the students continued discipline and focus as they complete this final hurdle in their schooling adventure. These young adults have put in an enormous amount of effort into their preparation, working through late-night study sessions to make sure they get every mark they deserve. Best wishes for those final papers – you've got this!
The Year 9 cohort has come back from the four-week Googa Camp program. What a time of going through maturation and self-discovery! During my visits to the camp, I chatted with many students and asked what they missed most about being at home. The overwhelming response was family – a touching reminder of deep bonds that anchor us all. We hope their return has meant reconnection to the most important thing in their lives, while also fostering a positive sense of independence and resilience. Those experiences at Googa gave them information that will take them further than the classroom can. We celebrate their return officially next Tuesday evening in what is called the “Coming Home” ceremony, where students and their families join us to reflect on their journey and the key learnings they take into their futures.
On the creative front, well done to our Visual Art students from the Senior College, whose fabulous artworks have been showcased at our Art Show this week. The exhibition was a treat for the eyes, with everything from thought-provoking abstracts to incredible portraits that captured every sense of our students' imagination. A huge thank you to Ms Kiehne for her passion and support in showcasing the work of our students.
As the term draws to a close, there are a couple of key celebrations on the horizon. Our Sports Evening on Wednesday, 12 November, is a night to honour athletic excellence, sportsmanship and the continued success of our sports program. Save the date notifications have been emailed regarding the Years 7-11 Presentation Evening on Monday, 24 November, where we'll recognise extracurricular and academic achievements and the myriad ways our students shine.
I look forward to seeing more of our community in the coming weeks as we wrap up 2025.
Yours in faith,
Mr Jamie Pukallus

Issue 3 of EMBRACE reflects on Social Media
The Australian Government has introduced new legislation to help safeguard children online. Starting 10 December 2025, children under the age of 16 will no longer be allowed to create or maintain accounts on popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube.
This change is part of the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024, which aims to reduce young people’s exposure to harmful content, online bullying, and addictive features that can affect their mental health and development.
Importantly, parents and children won’t be penalised under this law. Instead, the responsibility falls on social media companies to verify users’ ages and prevent underage access. Platforms that fail to comply could face hefty fines.
As a parent, this is a good time to talk with your child about their online habits and explore safer, age-appropriate digital alternatives. These changes are designed to support families in creating healthier online environments for children.
